DANCE!

Feb 5th - Christiana's new dance studio had their first dance competition, Starpower and everyone did SO GREAT! It was Christiana's first ever dance competition and I was so proud of her and so relieved she didnt have any stagefright *phew* It's not like recitals where teachers or student teachers can be off in the wings also doing the dance moves.  She had to know it ALL on her own! Despite getting a bit ahead in her "Coppelia" ballet number and then deciding to take a LONG PAUSE in the middle of it to go with the music, everything went well. The kids got 3.25 stars out of 4 for both numbers, 1st place trophies for both and they placed 8th with their "My Boyfriend's Back" jazz trio and 6th with their "Coppelia" ballet duo.

This year we got brave and went from taking just 2-3 dance classes, primarily ballet, tap and hip hop and decided to officially take on 4--ballet, tap, hip hop and jazz. On top of those weekly classes, Christiana, my 6 year old was also invited to join her dance studio's competitive dance team. She was chosen amongst 250 dance students to join a group of 15. She is part of the minis and is 1/3 of a talented trio of 6 year olds with sass, pizzaz and boy can they SHIMMY!

Our first competition is coming up and in hopes to "ready" the kids for competition season, the studio held a "First Impressions" Dance Show for friends and family last weekend that also served as a fundraiser for our competition expenses and our upcoming trip to LA in April for a dance convention.

All the kids did so well, and I know I may be biased, but my daughter did AMAZING! Although she puts on a shy front at times, there was no shyness in this girl during her jazz # and I couldnt be prouder. I mean, how can you NOT have a sassy smile on your face when you are dancing around to "My Boyfriend's Back" and wearing a hot pink pleather jumpsuit and hot pink sequined Converse sneakers? ;)
